Be a Disciple - Mark 1:14-20

So we've talked about what a disciple is, but what does it look like? What does it look like in my life to be a disciple? So the secret is in verse 15, where Jesus says, The time promised by God has come at last.

The kingdom of God is near.

Repent of your sins and believe in the good news.

When Peter, Andrew, James, and John...

I'm going to say Peter.

The text says Simon.

It's the same guy.

Just so we're all clear, it's the same guy.

Jesus changes his name.

So Simon, Andrew, James, and John decide to follow Jesus.

This is what they're responding to.

There are four aspects of being a disciple.

The now...

The know, the news and the nets.

Let's unpack what these things are.

The now, the time has come.

The time has come means that it's happening now.

So when Jesus says the time has come, it means that God's presence is not a distance promise from the future, for the future.

It's active and available right now.

The disciples in this moment in the text, they are believing that the time has come, that the kingdom has come, and it's here, it's now.

It means that through Jesus Christ, we have available to us a new reality that means freedom for people, healing, grace, and hope.

Beatrice going before me is perfect.

Everything that she just said is available to you today.

It's not, I have become a Christian so I don't go to hell.

I've become a Christian so I get into heaven.
