Every Love Was A Lie
The final revelation makes every romance terrifying
Creepy OzHost
Around my 21st birthday, my grandfather passed away, and much to the immense surprise of my entire family, he left his large old house in inner Sydney to me.

There was a bit of a legal fuss, because the place was worth a lot of money, and some of his children felt they deserved it despite years of pretending the man didn't exist.

But I couldn't shake the nagging sense that there was more to my grandfather leaving the house to me.

All that he left me was an envelope containing a piece of paper, on which he had written six numbers.

Try as I might, I couldn't work out what they meant, and over time I simply forgot about them.

In fact, I found myself a new girlfriend every few months or so, despite my intentions to steer clear of romance after every breakup.

Every relationship was a whirlwind, passionate and intense, with an immensely bitter end.

It was as though they all ran to a pattern, and try as I might, I couldn't escape the cycle.

I was always in pain, but I had to force it down and move on, as life, it seemed, careened off into the future with or without my consent.
