Running From The Calling

Now we're gonna preach about Samson.

Now, here's the interesting thing about Samuel and Samson.

Both have miraculous births announced before they are conceived.

Both are gonna be dedicated to God before their bir- birth.

Both are gonna be leaders in their nation.

Both are gonna be raised up with the intention for God to make them revivalists through their, to their generation during a time of cultural confusion and compromise in their nation.

So you might notice that they have a very similar calling of God.

They have a very similar calling, but their response to God's call could not be more different.

Yeah.

Samuel chases the calling of God.

Samuel, uh, Samson runs from it.

Samuel says, "Speak, Lord.

I'm listening." Samson does whatever he wants.

[laughs] Whatever he wants, okay? Samuel spends his youth becoming who God called him to be.

Samson is gonna spend his life fighting everything God called him to be.

Yeah.

And you know what gets in the way? Well, pretty much the whole story, it's his hormones.

I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry.

It's pretty much his hormones and his feelings hijack his life, okay? Yeah.

He winds up in a situationship with Delilah.

It's just, he's got a terrible temper.

At every point in his life, his feelings get in the way.

But here's the thing, we are not called to follow our feelings, young people.

Yeah.
