Generational God

But this is Moses.

Many of you know Moses, but this is Moses at 80 years of age.

He had spent the first 40 years raised as a prince in Egypt and then 40 years of exile from Egypt after the murder charge came his way.

And all of a sudden, one day, going about his business, the Lord appears to him on the side of Mount Horeb.

in a burning bush.

And for those who don't know, most people think Mount Horeb and Mount Sinai are actually the same geographical location.

And so we see a mini version of God meeting him in the fire, only to know later on, obviously he meets him at the top of Mount Sinai, likewise with fire.

But that's just for a few people that like facts about the Bible.

But let me read the scripture to you.

It says this in Exodus 3.

It says, he said, do not come near.

This is God talking to Moses.

do not come near, take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.

And he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

This is the first time we hear this in Scripture.

God literally himself introduces himself to, he speaks to Moses and he calls of himself the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Now, this wasn't a name that Moses gave to him.

This is the name that he spoke of of himself.

I am the God of Abraham.

I am the God of Isaac.

I am the God of Jacob.

And now, I'm sure you think like I think sometimes.

where you go, God could have called himself anything.

In fact, later in this encounter, he says, I am.

He's got many names which he's referred to, but he starts off by telling Moses that he is the God of his father.
