At twenty, Inna Segal was told by her chiropractor that there was nothing he could do to help her — and went home to discover that her chronic back pain, psoriasis, and digestive issues were rooted in…
I really resonate with this whole concept of the body as a teacher, and sometimes one that we have to learn to listen to.
I'd love for you to talk about the 25 years that you've spent helping people understand the messages that our bodies are sending, and really talk about how did you first discover that your body could speak that clearly to you?
I think as many people, you know, I was very much connected to the medical system.
I spent most of my younger years at doctor's offices from one to another, and there was this sense of masking everything, that nothing was actually healing or transforming, and in fact, it was often getting worse because all medicine has side effects.
And so I got to a place where when I was about 18, I was really struggling to walk, so I had really bad back pain.
I had digestive issues where I'd just end up in the hospital for no reason, um, that it was clear to me or anyone else, and I had psoriasis all over my skin.
So it was, it was a bit of a struggle and, um, there was a moment where I realized, "Okay, I'm going to now...
I'm gonna try alternative medicine." But I went to alternative doctors in exactly the same way that, or alternative medicine practitioners, in the same way that I went to normal doctors, which is, "I don't know anything.
That's as much as I need to do, and I'm happy to take whatever pill you give me." And that, again, wasn't really working for me, so I would improve a little bit for a week, a month or so on, and then I would go backwards and be in agony, not be able to walk, and so on.
So at one point I was seeing this chiropractor and, um, I'd seen him for over a year.
And just thinking, you know, "How can I be like this when I'm..." I was 20 by that stage.
Um, "What have I done?" You know, "How have I got myself into this situation? Am I gonna end up in a wheelchair?"
Mm.
And when I saw him, um, he basically said, "Oh, your body's stuck." And I remember thinking, "Okay.
What are you gonna do to fix it?" You know, again, thinking in this fixing everything, um, way.
