Media mogul Joe Budden didn't lose sleep over firing his friends

How did you

get paid

for it?

Yeah, that was the question.

No, I'm asking you, how did you get paid? I'm saying you have a record deal.

You're on Def Jam.

How do you get paid? Well, I wasn't getting paid.

Tell me the one.

Do you ever remember getting a check from your deal? A check? Well, I'm sure I got a check.

I got checks.

Did you get

an advance? I remember going in.

I'm sure I got an advance.

Yeah, I got an advance.

You were how old? 21.

So again, my album didn't come out until I was 23.

Right, you two years.

I got an advance at 21.

But all that money was gone.

You go, you get some chains, you get you a car.

I think for me, I got a truck, I got a Hummer, and that was the end of it.

I remember going to Leo's office without anyone knowing and saying, how are rappers making money? Because I'm not making any, and I'm not seeing

it.

Did you say it like that, or was it aggressive? No, it wasn't aggressive at all.

It was inquisitive.
