Nothing In A LEO's Training Prepares Him For Bigfoot The night shift has a way of making even familiar roads feel different. Police officers are trained to deal with dangerous people and situations…
This happened in November of 2013.
I was on nights at the time.
The call came in close to 11.30 p.m. An elderly couple reported a trespasser near their barn.
The husband had seen someone move into the equipment shed.
He described the person as large and wearing dark clothing.
Their property was at the end of a county road.
The next unit was about 20 minutes away.
I told dispatch to have the owners remain inside.
It was raining when I arrived.
The house sat about 60 yards from the barn.
The front porch light was on.
The husband spoke to me through the screen door.
He said the motion light near the barn had come on twice.
He had gone to the porch, and he had seen someone duck behind the tractor.
The main barn itself was closed.
Attached to one side of the barn was a three-sided pole shed used for the tractor, hay, and feed.
The open side faced the yard.
I parked where my headlights covered most of the opening.
I used my flashlight to check the fence, the back of the barn, and the ground between the shed and the woods.
The cattle were all standing together at the far end of the pasture.
None of them would come near the barn.
I found a bare footprint in the mud beside the shed.
It was longer and wider than my boot.
Toes were visible.
