The Flyers Tried, but Did Not Build0:38 – 5:28

Daniel EscheHost

0:38

It felt like the takeaway of the summer was they tried.

Daniel EscheHost

0:42

That was like the battle cry of everything, you know, with Carlson.

Daniel EscheHost

0:46

And, you know, they were in on Darnell Nurse, and that didn't happen.

Daniel EscheHost

0:49

They were in on Maverick Burke, and that didn't happen.

Daniel EscheHost

0:51

And they were in on all these, and that didn't happen.

Daniel EscheHost

0:53

John Carlson, and it's like they tried, you know.

Daniel EscheHost

0:58

They did.

Daniel EscheHost

0:59

And we'll talk about this more when Carlson comes up.

Daniel EscheHost

1:01

But if you come up empty-handed, what the hell does trying mean? This wasn't a summer where trying matters.

Daniel EscheHost

1:07

You had to build now.

Daniel EscheHost

1:09

It was time to make a noticeable change to the roster, and you walked away with a fourth-line winger and a backup goaltender.

Daniel EscheHost

1:15

That's the only tangible moves that happened.

Daniel EscheHost

1:17

They tried.

Daniel EscheHost

1:18

And yeah, Breyer has not done a lot of trying as GM to this point.

Daniel EscheHost

1:22

We've been comparing him to Hextall for that very reason.

Daniel EscheHost

1:25

But what does trying get you if you don't...

Daniel EscheHost

1:30

Trying is great, but it wasn't time to try.

Daniel EscheHost

1:33

It was time to succeed, goddammit.

M

MikeHost

1:35

Chuck Fletcher also tried.

M

MikeHost

1:37

Remember before he got fired? I tried.

M

MikeHost

1:40

I had my app.

M

MikeHost

1:42

I tried calling people and I couldn't get it done.

M

MannyHost

1:45

Yeah.

M

MannyHost

1:46

He tried to show us the phone at the season ticket holder meeting.
