!https://britishinvaders.com/images/Apparitions_100.jpg*Apparitions* is a BBC occult investigation series from 2008. Catholic priest and an exorcist Father Jacob Myers is meant to be evaluating…
So we'll get into a little bit more about Father Jacob and his work as a investigator of possible miracles.
And as we suggested last time, each episode sort of gives him a new case to look into, either of a possible new miracle or of a possession.
And then we've mentioned the character of Michael, this apparently homeless man who may or may not have been possessed by the entity known as Astaroth.
His fate seems, and in fact his faith seems linked to Father Jacob's throughout these six episodes.
As we said, he moves into the sort of the rooms in the rectory next door to the church, and he's quite involved in it all.
Yes.
And it seems that Father Jacob is granted access to a lot of different places.
We have him going into prisons and police stations and autopsy rooms and even an abortion clinic.
And he doesn't seem to have any difficulty walking into these places and being accepted as someone who should be there.
And I think that's, that's sort of a detective trope in a way, Brian, isn't it? When we have the non-traditional detective in these shows, they often get access to a lot of places where they probably wouldn't in actuality.
That's right.
A bit of perhaps a plot expediency thing there.
Exactly, yeah.
And Sister Ruth, who has been assigned by the cardinal to keep an eye on Father Jacob, is slowly coming to believe in the work that Jacob is doing and to believe that maybe he's doing the right thing for some of these things after all.
And we do have some things where Father Jacob comes into contact with people from other religions and religious leaders of various types and is sort of willing to talk and accepting and there are some interesting things that are done with that.
It's sort of a, an interesting feature of this, this show that was a bit unexpected.
Yeah, it is.
Father Jacob, you know, we've mentioned he's a sort of calm, accepting sort of figure and he also seems to accept that the battles he's involved in are problems for all faiths and there's quite a bit of sort of, as you say, multi-faith work going on in this show, which was a, a good feature, an interesting feature.
Yes, I think so.
