**Episode summary**
What if the biggest advantage in business isn't a bigger audience, but a stronger community? Violette de Ayala built FemCity into a nationwide movement of women entrepreneurs by choosing collaboration over competition, and she's sharing exactly how she did it.
Violette is the founder of FemCity, a community for women entrepreneurs that has grown to more than 40 chapters across the US and Canada over nearly 18 years. She started it after closing a Pilates studio she'd run for about a decade in Raleigh, North Carolina, once she realized the women she surrounded herself with were a big part of why that business kept a waitlist.
In this conversation, Violette and Jo talk about what makes a brand stand out when everyone has access to the same tools, why community became the backbone of Violette's business, and why accepting you won't be for everyone is one of the more freeing lessons in branding. They also get into the mechanics of networking: how to walk into a room where you don't know anyone, how to build relationships that pay off years later, and the "karmic bank" mindset Violette uses instead of keeping score.
