Get Back What You’ve Lost -- Part 1

A couple years ago, we moved to a different house, and we had a little dog that I had given to my daughter when she was 12 years old, much to my chagrin.

When she was three years old, she looked at me with big, big brown eyes and said, "Daddy, can I have a puppy?"

[laughs]

How many of you have had your kids ask you for a puppy? Say no.

Say no.

[laughs]

Just say no.

And so I just...

She looked at me with...

She wanted a puppy so bad, and I said, "Honey, uh, when you turn 12 and you can take care of a puppy, I'll get it to you." Well, she never forgot.

I thought she'd outgrow it, but instead she put puppy posters on her wall, got a puppy calendar, researched puppies.

And when she was 12 she was like, "I want my puppy.

I want it to be a Shih Tzu.

I know what color.

I know..." And I had to give her a puppy, so we gave her a puppy.

But we moved to a house, and this dog had this habit of just as soon as we opened the back door, she would run.

Like freedom, and she'd just run.

And we'd have to send one of the boys just chasing after her, running, "Hey, come back," and, "Come back." She'd just run, run, and then look at us like, "Come on, chase me," and then just run.

Well, one day they let her out, and, uh, we thought she was in the yard, and she ran.

And so I get a frantic phone call by my wife and she said, "Mark, come home.

Angel's gone." I wanted to secretly say hallelujah.

[laughs]

But I, I didn't, I didn't say that.

I said, "Oh, really? Uh, oh, I'm so sad." And she said, "No, not so sad.

Come home and find our dog." I'm like, "Uh." So I went home.
