Substack expert and engagement consultant Claire Venus joins Jo for an honest conversation about burnout in creative spaces and her memories of morning routines, from paper rounds to walks by the…
Claire VenusGuestJo HuttonHostAnd does your morning that you have with your kids, is it in any way similar to the mornings that you had when you were a kid?

I don't feel like it is because I feel like because we live open plan, the TV is a bit of a like heartbeat and constant source of noise in the room.

So if they want the TV on, I just feel like that is then the shift into noise and having noise in my life.

Like my son will usually plug into his iPad and do a bit of stuff on there before he gets ready for school and have his breakfast.

But my daughter quite often will have something very specific that she wants to ask for on the big telly.

Like, I think we were more, yeah, we just sort of like hung out, got ready, ate breakfast, left.
Do you feel like you have a routine with like a capital R or is it more like see how it comes, go with the wind kind of thing?

Yeah, I think it's more the ritual of like waking up and coming back to myself that I'm in.

I think if I didn't have the kids and responsibility to get them to school, I would have a completely different routine.

And sometimes I get cross with myself and think, why don't I just do that? Partly because we've got a lazy dog.

But partly it's because it just doesn't feel like enough time to have all of the time that I would want to come back to myself before I've got to see people in the world.
And do you feel like this is similar to the image that you had when you were growing up of what you saw a morning would be like when you were an adult?
