Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. We start our book and movie voyage off with a book that was a massive smash and…
Yeah, you want to go ahead and tell us a little bit about the book.
What is this book about? So, originally I was going to be very organized and write down a plot summary and history, and I didn't.
um so i'm just kind of winging it a little bit here but the book is starts out pretty similar to what we think of from jaws we have um the girl goes out swimming the guy passes out drunk on the beach she gets eaten by a shark and that's what starts it and the um Sheriff, who's a local boy, is immediately wanting to shut down the beaches and he immediately gets pushback from the newspaper, from the mayor, from everybody because this is a summer town and that's where they get all of their money.
But then when another attack happens, they end up calling in a marine biologist, Hooper.
And that leads to a whole side thing that if you've only ever watched and heard of the movie, you will not know about.
And she is feeling very, let's say, not confident in who she is in her life right now.
I'm going to have an affair today.
And boy, does she.
Meanwhile, in the background of all of that, we're still dealing with a shark.
And they hire...
Oh my god, I forgot his name.
It's Quint.
Quint, yes, thank you.
They hire Quint to take them out for shark hunting, and they...
He is brutal.
There's a whole thing about it about where he starts a shark frenzy by just gutting another shark.
And he's got a baby porpoise, an unborn baby porpoise that's supposed to be just, you know, the thing that the shark will go crazy for.
So if they can find the shark, he'll be able to pull it in with that.
And in the background of all of this are Chief Brody's suspicions about Hooper and his wife.
And that's not even mentioning the fact that it seems like the mayor has mafia ties.
And he's fronted a bunch of money to pay back the mafia for an old favor.
And if they can't bring in money this summer, he's going to lose everything.
The mafia even...
