The first thing to always ask yourself is, "Have I taken responsibility for what I received?" As we expand our consciousness and go deeper onto this path, ayahuasca might be very patient and a loving grandmother in the beginning because we don't know how to navigate any of this yet.

She holds the back of the seat while we wobble from side to side, and she helps us find our own inner balance again, and she might even keep holding that bike for quite some time.

At some point, we have to get on that bicycle ourself and ride into our life because as our consciousness expands, so does our responsibility for what we do with it.

And what is consciousness in its own purest expression? I would say free will, our ability to make a conscious choice, where we don't simply react from conditioning, fear, trauma, habit, or whatever everyone around us expects us to do.

And that is a much bigger spiritual practice than it sounds because many of us have spent most of our lives being trained not to trust ourself.

We become domesticated and institutionalized into constantly looking outside ourself for confirmation, validation, approval so that we know it's safe to move forward.

And then we come onto this spiritual path and can repeat exactly the same pattern in a different language.

We ask the psychic, the astrology, the numerology, the cards, the shaman, the integration coach, ayahuasca, or everyone around us, "What does this sign mean? Where should I go? What should I do next? What is the right relationship? Should I leave this job? What is the right path?" And all of these things can be beautiful mirrors.

They can help us see something we couldn't see before, but they can also become another way of avoiding the responsibility of making a conscious choice for ourself.

Because when I make a choice, I have to take responsibility for the consequences of that choice.

There is no one to blame, no chart, no reading, no ceremony, no prophecy, and no sign from the universe because I choose.

And that can be terrifying when the path that is genuinely ours has never really been walked by us before.
