Somewhere along the way, I decided in my brain that the way that I'm the most, quote-unquote, productive and efficient in my business is when I force myself to sit at a desk and get work done.

And I have proven time and time again that my most creative ideas, my best brand-building ideas, my most creative, like, downloads that I get do not come when I am sitting behind a desk.

And yet, no matter how many times I've had these moments of going for walks and having the best ideas or being in the shower or being completely unplugged from work, having these incredible creative ideas, no matter how many times that's happened, I still have this sticky belief that will not go away that I need to be sitting at a table, like, in a place with no distraction and, like, sitting at a desk in order to be effective at getting work done.

And I don't know if, as business owners, over the years, there's obviously a lot of pressure on us.

We don't have someone who's coming to us that's, like, telling us about the deadlines and the things we have to do.

But when it comes to, like, really managing and running our business, we're the only ones responsible for when things get done, how they get done, what hours we're working, et cetera.

And so I think that pressure, mixed with just lots of client work and lots of responsibility that now lies on us, over the years, we start to believe this idea the work can't feel enjoyable.

Like, I have to be somewhat unhappy doing the work in order for me to be building a business that is successful.

And that feels so wild to say out loud, but I really do think there's a lot of truth behind that.

Because when I even sit here and tell you that I worked at the pool, there's a part of me, as I say that, that's like, "Are they actually gonna believe that I got work done? Does that sound like I just made an excuse that I wanted to sit by the pool and, like, say that I'm getting work done so that I feel productive?" And yet time and time again, some of my best ideas, some of my most creative ideas, the times that I have really just, like, had those thoughts that I'm like, "This will change the course of my business," they're not when I'm sitting behind a desk.

The reality is that, like, I think as business owners, we never actually feel like we've really earned that life.

If you're anything like me, I have had my business for over 15 years, and I got so used to the hustle.

I spent the first, how many years of my business? Probably the first seven years.

Yeah, seven, eight years of my business working full time in a job while growing my business on the side.

And so when I tell you that hustle was all that I knew, all that I knew was working full time, 40 hours a week, and then coming home, working on my business at night, working on my business on the weekends.

And I appreciate that part of my business so much because I w- truly don't think that I would be where I am today had I not invested that much time and energy.

But I think it also taught me some really good lessons, and I think it also taught me some lessons that I'm having a really hard time unlearning.

And some of those lessons I'm trying to unlearn is the work doesn't always have to feel like you're sacrificing and giving up everything in order to have a business that is successful.
