Three points I want to put out for us today from today's text.
First, a call.
Second, a promise.
And third, a response.
First, a call.
Follow me.
Have a look at verse 18 of Matthew chapter 4.
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew.
They were casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen.
Then verse 21.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John.
So Zebedee is both dad and fisherman, and he's taught his sons fishing, and that's what he's done.
He hasn't just taught it to them in a classroom.
He's taught them how to push off from the shore, how to row, how to sail.
He's taught them how to get the net and how to throw it out and gather the fish in from the sea into the boat.
They've picked up his ways, how he goes about the fishing, his job, his purpose.
That is, learn from me, copy me, be about my work, my mission.
The word follow me literally could be translated, come behind me.
