After taking a week off for a birthday celebration, the full cast is back this week to talk about some games we've been playing. Star Wars Galactic Racer is the newest among these, but old standby…
So, um, a couple of weeks ago at this point, um, a game that I have kind of been looking forward to came out, Minecraft Dungeons 2.
Uh, and if you're not familiar, Minecraft Dungeons 1 is a, was an ARPG set in the Minecraft universe, and really does function as both a very fun-to-play, like, looting, action, role-playing brawler game, and also a really good introduction to, like, the, uh, the Diablo, Last Epoch, Path of Exile-like genre for, especially for kids who might not be ready for the Path of Exile passive tree.
[laughs]
A- and/or adults who might not be ready for the Path of Exile passive tree.
Seriously.
Yeah, let's be honest.
It's nuts.
But, uh, there's no real classes.
You just have a number of items that you're going to pick up.
Uh, and in the first one, those items had a bunch of, like-
Loot table
... random affixes that you could, like, level up over time.
So, and it was, there was a bunch of different levels that you would go through, and a story would be told.
The biggest, most obvious change with Minecraft Dungeons 2 is now we are more of in an actual open world.
There is no more, like, "Here is a map.
Here is a list of maps that you can go and run through." It's like, "Here is where you are.
Here are a bunch of fast travel spots around the map," and then there are quests to go find, and in many ways feels like sort of the introduction to an open world game.
[laughs]
Yeah.
Uh, and we've been going through and playing and slowly unlocking the various NPCs and trying to, uh, level up our various vendors so, as, so that we can get the items we have and make them more powerful.
The one thing I noted, though, is that most of the affixes that used to be, like, all of an item, uh, are now enchantments, and items themselves have a bunch of preset different affixes, which makes the individual piece of loot feel way more meaningful as you get them, 'cause then you can customize them and there's a little bit more of a crafting system going on here.
Uh, there are illagers.
I think this was, these were also introduced in Minecraft Dungeons 1, the idea of bad villagers who come from the underground.
