One for the superfans like Mike V: A deep dive into Spud

When the book first came out and the movie followed, I didn't get it.

I think it has a lot to do with the relatability of the story.

I was like, what's the hype around this? And then my mom took my brother to go and see the movie.

And I was like, I still don't get it.

Why is mom taking Mo out to go and watch this movie? What is it? I read the book.

still didn't hit the zone.

My brother was still in primary school at the time when the movie dropped.

And then he went to high school.

And then he'd come home and he'll tell me...

And I'm like, bro, you spied.

This is it.

It...

It sort of closed the gap between myself and my brother and understanding just what it's like growing up to be a boy, especially in high school.

It's a weird time for a young man.

Very weird.

Yeah.

And you know what?

Most schoolboys are weird.

They've got a funny voice.

Yes.

They either shot up or they haven't shot up.

You know, nothing's in proportion.

And you've got this like, hello, voice when like, you know, you meet these guys in the signing queue and you're like, shame.

And they're in that almost like transition.

They're in like a transition.
