October Oscars State of Play

So...

Yeah, there's a couple of layers to this.

So first of all, I think it will get the most nominations.

I think it'll be the most nominated film.

I think that's a relatively uncontroversial take.

I think it may well end up getting the most wins as well.

We'll get into maybe some more specific predictions and numbers and stuff on the Odyssey episode.

But for now, I'll just say that I think it may well get the most wins.

I don't think it will be the juggernaut that Oppenheimer was.

I think partly because of, is psychology the right word or politics a mixture of the two? The fact that we did have Oppenheimer.

Now, if we hadn't had Oppenheimer, maybe there's kind of a weird hypothetical alternate reality where people are more likely to vote for different aspects of of The Odyssey because Nolan, quote, has earned it, right? End quote.

But I think we got a hefty portion of that with Oppenheimer.

In the reality we're in, I am predicting it won't be quite that juggernaut.

I think if people have a bit of a choice between two or three films and The Odyssey is only one of them, I think they might think, well...

Oppenheimer got it.

Nolan got it then.

So maybe let's go with someone else and we'll perhaps talk more about that over the season.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you that it's like Oppenheimer had seven Oscars, right? That is a juggernaut.

And we've had a bit of that going around recently, some big winners.

dominating the season very predictably.

It's actually been kind of boring as a pundit.

So I'm hoping for a bit of a difference here.

I think the Odyssey is the front runner in at least that many categories as it stands.

But I think there's a lot to play out here.

And there's a couple nipping at the heels, like you mentioned.
