Hello, everyone, and welcome to an, uh, to a UK Film Review interview.

I'm really excited today to, uh, to be joined by, uh, Isabel Moir, who is a festival, uh, programmer, film programmer for this year's LFF.

Um, thank you so much for being here today, Isabel.

Thank you for having me.

It's great to talk about the program.

Absolutely.

So I was wondering, just to start off with, whether you could, uh, perhaps just talk sort of generally about your overall roles and responsibilities as a festival programmer and just sort of what a film programmer, uh, does.

What are you guys going to see together for a couple movies?

We're going to go see The Debut, which is my wife's most anticipated movie of the year, directed by Jesse Eisenberg, starring Julianne Moore.

She plays a woman in a small town who decides on a whim one day to audition for her local musical, directed by a director played by Paul Giamatti.

It looks funny and strange.

Excellent.

And l- let's jump into some of these world premieres, because we had, uh, the debut from Jesse Eisenberg, the new Andrew Haigh, A Long Winter, Simon Stone with Elsinore.

Lots of high profile titles, lots of things to give us more conversation, certainly, with the upcoming awards race as well.

Ryan, what did you really love of the world premieres at Telluride?

It is someone who loves to deceive meeting another person who doesn't think they're deceiving but is constantly deceiving other people, and that makes a really fascinating, groundbreaking documentary.

I haven't seen anything like it.

I would say just a highlight for me was just watching The Debut with everyone.

So this is Jesse Eisenberg's latest film.

but I just don't know, because it didn't seem like there was any enthusiasm for one specific film.

Like, people liked La Bola Negra, people liked The Debut, people liked Wild Horse 9, but I don't think any of them, like, raved about, you know, the way people raved about The Odyssey.

So I don't know.

Well, but-

outIf it wins, I'm gonna be so, like, pissed because, um, we're gonna have to deal with people saying, like, "Oh, if you're not predicting it, you're not acknowledging it.

You're, you're just a homophobe if you're not predicting it," and I'm just gonna be, like, rolling my eyes the whole time.

What did you think of the debut?

I thought it was well done.

dune

and dune 2 so both dune movies that have come out so far i'm sure a lot of you are wondering why we're doing this now and not closer to when it comes out but andrew just recently watched the first two for the And I think a lot of stuff approaching that December 18th date.

It's going to be a lot of Marvel stuff.

So, yeah, we figured we'd do it now while it's still fresh in our minds, especially for Andrew after his first watch.

It's been fun to see it slowly go up.

Yeah, but I've been really trying to catch up on 2026.

So I watched a good amount of 2026 movies, and then just kind of some overlap from Ridley Scott.

I watched Thelma and Louise and The Last Duel.

And that to me is when I think back about it, that it wasn't about vanity and it wasn't about ego.

It was about filmmakers.

It was about storytellers, the people who tell our stories and who have gone on, I'm sure.

to tell the story of 9-11 and that day many times in films and documentaries.

So we have Wicker, Ha Chan, Shake Your Booty, the only living pickpocket in new york and the gallerist nice

um okay i'm gonna like i said i got a bunch i'll go quick first is the debut which like just premiered at like telluride like yesterday and apparently apparently we have our our official like best actress race because apparently julianne moore's just like lights out fantastic in this like i heard there was like like an ovation like in the middle like applause in the middle of the movie like it was that big of a deal so i'll say the debut fatherland bad lieutenant tokyo hope which we're reviewing next week paper tiger club kid labola negra fjord wild horse nine resident evil and and and yeah so those are my honorable mentions very very excited um all right karen let's start with your first uh one on your list then

Yeah, I'm going to go with Paper Tiger, actually.

I really like James Gray as a filmmaker.
