We're gonna be pulling up to the area where the suitcases were on North Como Road.
I was a second shift patrol officer for the town of Geneva Police Department.
On, uh, June 5th, 2014, I was contacted for someone that called in regarding, uh, suitcases on the side of the road.
Now, when I approached the suitcases, I saw a lot of flies.
I took the black suitcase.
I ended up taking it by the handle, laid it down, and unzipped it from the top and opened it up and I saw the remains of a decomposing human body, which was, appeared to be a female.
Nothing can prepare you.
Am I really seeing what I'm seeing right now? It's not normal opening a suitcase and seeing body inside.
Then I went to the second suitcase, the purple one, uh, grabbed the handle, lifted it up and felt the weight inside of that.
So we proceeded to lay down the suitcase and open that one, and where we found another appeared to be human body inside.
Who could possibly do this to another human being? And I determined that I needed to take a step back, close this off as a crime scene, and I needed to call my dispatch and let them know what was happening.
We had to figure out, first off, who the victims were, then to try to figure out how they had lost their lives, and then to try to figure out who was the person responsible for that.
It's a real quiet town.
Population's around 5,400 people, but during the summer times it doubles, even triples with, uh, vacationers.
They come here for a place to relax.
Suitcases found on the side of the road with two young ladies deceased in there just flipped this town upside down, became national news for the wrong reasons.
Law enforcement was out on Como Road for about five hours yesterday evening when those two bodies were discovered.
Nothing can prepare you for what you can see upon opening a suitcase and finding a corpse inside of it.
Does it affect you? Of course, 'cause police are not robots.
[tense music] I had to let other people know to get down there, so I had to get ahold of the Walworth County Sheriff's Department to send detectives down to help me out with the scene.
Jeff Ragnauckas was one of the first responding detectives from Walworth County Sheriff's Department.
When I pulled up, Eric Anderson came up to me, and you could tell, like, there was something really important that had happened because he had that certain stare in his eyes.
