So when you already, like, are not used to that environment, obviously everybody here is, so we know how to manage that and kinda regulate ourselves.

I see how it's very easy to just walk in and be like shut down 'cause I am too, like, over, over my head.

So, you know, I think it is, like, crowd management on top of all the other stuff to just make it even, like, pleasant to be there and not super overwhelming.

[laughs] Where he's watching a bunch of world leaders and, uh, United States politicians who are way older than he is making decisions for his generation that are being paid for by conglomerates.

By...

They're, they're not, they're not being chosen to, like, better the youth of America, they're being chosen because this is where the money's from.

So Benton is of the mindset that there's nothing he can do to change this.

But Benton also has a crush on this girl who is a very big into social activism, and he, he tries to flirt with her and she basically shoots him down and is just like, "Well, what are you doing?" Like, "Why would I date you? Because you're not doing anything." So Benton, as one does, hops on YouTube and [laughs] makes a video basically saying that everybody should, instead of voting for another older white man, um, they should vote for him instead and write his name in for presidency as kind of like a revolt to everything that's happening and these leaders that aren't listening to the youth of America.

The video goes viral.

Mm-hmm.

That's the geyser, hot water and steam shooting up from a crack in the ground caused by underground pressure and volcanic heat.

I've never seen one up close before.

I was gonna go down there, but I see an old friend from school, Naomi.

She says she's moved sort of near me.

She seems a bit stressed.

She's had a maniac of a boyfriend for years now, and I asked her if she's all right, and she's 100%, like, not okay and on something, I think.

Anyway, she eventually just says, "I'm really sorry, Livs, can I just get your help? My TV is literally out in the alleyway, and I need someone to help me lift it up the stairs to my new flat." And I was like, "Course.

You don't know?

Well, I must say that I'm rather disappointed with the offer.

Well, I could feed that back to Borset Jerag, but the truth is, Justin, you declared your intention to sell those shares six months ago, and you failed to find a buyer.

Inspiring?

Well, yes, definitely.I need to be more proactive with supporting my daughter.

She's, she's just so lost at the moment.

[laughs]

Well, I think I realized, like, looking at that photo [laughs]...

So we met on this app.

I have a thing for beards.

I thought he was attractive, you know, initially, but then I saw this photo, and all of the guys there have beards except one.

It was Dopey.

[laughs] No, Jeff.

So do you have an exa-- Do you wanna share an example of your perfect day?

Uh, I work for the government, so I'm pretty limited in what I can do.

It's- [laughs]

Was that a satisfactory answer as my initial response? [chuckles]

Yeah.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised 'cause I feel like a lot of people would take that as a financial thing, and I think it's hard in the twenties.

I don't think finances don't get any easier as you get older.

[chuckles] But, uh, it is a confusing time-

Here's Olivia.

There were seven plaintiffs in our lawsuit, me and Miranda, our professor that was my faculty liaison, and then several other girls, including Morgan, who had experienced sexual harassment or, like, inappropriate behavior, retaliation from Cato.

It was originally that professor's idea to start the lawsuit because after Title IX did nothing and she was still working there, she didn't lose her job but pretty much lost her job over it.

We met with the attorney, and again, we felt like this person really wants to help us.

She felt confident that the case was really strong.

Miranda felt really good about having a new chance at getting some sort of resolution to this, but that process was genuinely fucking humiliating.

It was so awful.

What do you remember about that experience together?

Here's Olivia.

Beginning of the pandemic, spring 2020.

It was just like a normal day.

She had texted me asking if I wanted to hang out.

We hadn't seen each other in a while because of the safety precautions that everybody was taking.

She asked if we could go pick up dinner and bring it back to my house.

She came and got me, and on the way home she just casually was like, "Hey, there's something I need to talk to you about." I immediately got really nervous because I thought she was moving.

Here's Olivia again.

[gentle music] I had gotten the email from the school, and it was password-protected.

Like, I had to enter my university credentials, and it doesn't say in the subject line, "Title IX wants to talk to you." It's all very, like, hush-hush, and I didn't open it because they had always told us, "Don't just put your credentials into anything." And so I just left it.

I got the text from Cato saying, like, "I need to talk to you.

When can you get here?" And I got in my car immediately.

It was clear that, like, something was very wrong.

I met him at the theater that was on campus.

Here's Olivia.

He was seen as the coolest professor and the one with the most intense training.

He was very paternal to me in a lot of ways whenever we first met.

It felt like he was a very strong mentor in my life.

I remember getting a text from Cato.

He had said something along the lines of, "You know, I hope this is okay.

I really want us to be close and to work with you while you're here." And I didn't really clock that that was weird when it happened.

When Miranda and I were in Scotland, there was a play, and we were the only two that he took to go see it.

Here's Olivia.

Did you feel close to him even in the first semester of freshman year?

Yes, I did.

We were very close from the second that I got there.

We would have these majors meetings where all of the people in the department, we would come together, we would talk about stuff going on on campus, stuff happening in the department.

At my first one, there was a senior that he, like, loved, had a wonderful relationship with, and he had that senior approach me and begin to mentor me.

And that student and other students we were close to were like, "You're Cato's new girl," meaning that I was gonna be, like, the kid that he casts and everything.

I remember, I think it was that day, getting a text from Cato.

How did it feel when you would walk away from those long sessions of the Meisner techniques?

There seemed to be a language that everyone used.

A lot of women were really parroting the same phrases over and over again.

It became very clear that there was a- an acceptable script of things you could say, and so people would come on in a birth process, having been in labor for days with concerns, and it became very clear to me that the acceptable things to say were, "You got this, mama.

Trust your body.

Trust your baby.

Everything's happening as it needs to.

You're gonna meet your baby soon.

On the fourth day of Nicole's labor, she spoke to Olivia.

Meaning the leftovers.

Right.

Right.

I think my memory of the feelings that you brought up were you saying, "I've been harboring so much anger and resentment towards you and now I have to talk about it," and feeling a little, like, thanks for telling me now- Mm-hmm.

...

but also, I can't really do anything about those last few years and it has planted this seed of worry that you are secretly harboring a lot of anger and resentment towards me and not naming it, which has persisted.

Well, but then I would ask you something, which is that, you know that I need, "Hey, are you okay? You seem weird.

Yes.

Yeah, growing up.

[somber music] I was already signed up to go into a Bachelor's of Science in, in Nursing, and so I was looking forward to starting that.

And, um, right before my incarceration, I actually had a son.

I wanted to expand my family.

I wanted to get married.

Like, I had this whole vision of how my life would be.

My mother and I were very close.

Sounds like it.

... what did that look like?

Yeah [laughs].

Yeah, I mean, I wish I could say that I was just, like, so in tune with the Lord and I just, like, had this peace about it and it was all from Him, and I mean, ultimately, it was from Him, but I was just so lost at that time.

Like, I just felt like I was searching for any type of, like, guiding light.

But to Lydia's point earlier, I still wasn't, even in our engagement, like, we still weren't dating or, like, being together in a way that was how God designed it.

So I feel like there was such a cloud between, like, me and the Lord at that time.

Like, I just felt like I couldn't really hear what He was, like, saying to me, so I was just...
