So how do you think there's a way we could look a little bit further into that? Is it measuring different things? Is it different nutritional supplementation? What are your thoughts on that?
6:01
I wanted to touch briefly on some key variables you mentioned, NIFAs, ketones, and calcium.
6:09
Because for a long time, our industry has assumed that high NIFAs and ketones and subclinical hypocalcemia are causing disease or they're causing problems in some type of productivity metric.
6:25
And we think that, of course, because... for at least 60 years, we've been correlating our finding the relationship between the changes in those with negative outcomes.
6:38
And that correlation has never really been very high to begin with and oftentimes inconsistent.
6:44
In other words, sometimes we don't identify relationships.
6:47
So that's what led us to essentially start questioning whether or not the changes in these are something that we should be trying to actively intervene with.
8:59
probably as old as life on earth, right? So...
9:12
Oh, oh, yeah.
9:13
And it turns out one of the immune cells that resides in different types of epithelia, including your skin, and your lungs, and your gut, is called a mast cell.
9:25
And, uh, w- one of the hormones of that HPA axis is called corticotropin releasing factor which binds to the mast cell, and it causes the mast cell to essentially vomit its contents.
9:37
And for reasons that I think are yet, yet still to be determined, that, those signals that are inside the mast cell do two things.
9:46
One, uh, they cause the GI tract to become hyperpermeable or to become leaky, and two, they cause goblet cells to make less mucus.
9:56
So these are two important mechanisms that, uh, are, are going on here.
10:02
And aft- so the, the, the, the organism doesn't like this.
