OUT OF SCOPE Ep. 2: Anything But Crypto with David Hoffman
A

Mm.
D
10:48David HoffmanGUEST
The, the people who, like, heard me, like, change my mind and, like, read the article about why they changed my mind, the people that understood that the best were the people that had listened to every other Bankless podcast and read every other article I've ever, ever written, and then they also listened to this one, and those people are the most reasonable.
D
11:08David HoffmanGUEST
And then, like, the next most, uh, concentric circle are, are the people who only listen to a few of them, and so they have less context, and they hadn't seen me reason before in other domains, and so, mmm, uh, they start to fill in the gaps a little bit.
D
11:22David HoffmanGUEST
And then there's people who's like, "Well, I only watch the clips." And then there's people who are like, "I only read the titles of the podcast and w- look at the thumbnails." And then there's other people who are like, "I only read what other people are saying about you." And the further you get away from, like, the center, the, it, it start, you start to, it, reality starts to look like a, like a funhouse mirror from, from me.
D
11:44David HoffmanGUEST
And so, like, there's, there's people, like, attacking me on Twitter for positions I don't even hold.

So David, we understand that you have a therapy dog at school, and we wanna know how does that help students during challenging times?
D
19:46David HoffmanGUEST
She's a four-year-old yellow Lab, and she's about to start her third year with us in the district.
12 MINS LATER

Erin GruwellHOST
But have you noticed a difference with the algorithms that are in phones and technology where kids are more addicted to their phones, and the dopamine hits they're getting in? And as someone who is a school psychologist, what are some things that you can recommend for educators who find that, that relationship with a student and their phone to be a little maddening at times?
Let's Garden with Scott Beuerlein 7/18/2026 Hour 3

So I did want to, we're kind of in that transition, maybe a little bit later in the transition, but I don't think most people are familiar with the difference between cool season and warm season grasses.
D
7:56David HoffmanGUEST
Yeah, so cool season and warm season grasses, I mean, when you think about it, really the, and technically because sedges aren't, don't fall under the same family, they're in the Cyperaceae family versus the Poaceae family, which is the true grass family.
D
8:12David HoffmanGUEST
They, sedges kind of fall more in line with some of the cool season plants because they're actually flowering in that spring and early summertime and prefer the cooler temperatures.
D
8:22David HoffmanGUEST
So whereas warm season grasses really thrive in in the summer and those hot temperatures, I mean, there is a too hot where they kind of slow down.
D
8:32David HoffmanGUEST
Um, and like, you know, we have like a hundred degrees plus a 10, 10 degree heat index here in North Carolina where we're based.
D
8:39David HoffmanGUEST
Um, but you know, really those warm season grasses, they'll go through the season, um, put up a ton of foliage and then start to begin to flower.
13 MINS LATER
Scott BeuerleinHOST
So that makes them, you know, wonderful for solving, uh, green infrastructure problems.

149: Discovering That Motherhood Is Ministry (Home Birth, Breech Birth, Unassisted Birth) [with David and Tesia Hoffman]

Tessia HoffmanGUEST
I was very blessed by that, especially hearing other stories of women who didn't have that experience.
D
9:14David HoffmanGUEST
And I think COVID put a big distrust on just the direction of kind of the medical world.
D
9:24David HoffmanGUEST
And everybody in our ministry, that period of time really impacted everyone's lives.
D
9:30David HoffmanGUEST
And so, and we all kind of felt like, why is everything shut down? And, you know, you'd go to one state and nothing is shut down.
32 MINS LATER

Tessia HoffmanGUEST
So every night we're up late working and I'm meditating on these birth verses.

And you look in that stadium like, and we do that because we got a lot of kids, as you can see.
D
19:22David HoffmanGUEST
But I think the one distinct thing that we did, we won, and you gotta win, and two, We made it kid-friendly where families wanted to come to it.
D
19:32David HoffmanGUEST
And then I think because we got so engaged in the community, businesses really wanted to support it, and they started buying bucket loads of tickets to our game.

Jeff HoffmanGUEST
But we plan on kind of touching pretty much every corner of the arena to make sure that it stays best in class.
The Chopping Block: Ethereum's Identity Crisis, Apostates Speak Out, and Is ETH the Microsoft of Crypto?
19:22
D
5:27David HoffmanGUEST
It-- I-in order for, like, Ether to be re-rated as an asset, to have this, like, idiosyncratic jump up and, like, elevation in status, uh, Ethereum and Ethereum Layer One and Ether and everything around it really needs to have momentum, and that's the thing that I think, like, uniquely in 2026 I see harder and harder for momentum to uniquely, uh, th-- come back to the Ethereum Layer One.
D
5:53David HoffmanGUEST
And, uh, there's just so much structural architecture against value capture for ETH.
D
6:03David HoffmanGUEST
You know, the fat app thesis is displacing the fat protocol thesis. And like, as I was writing this article, like Ethereum as a, as a open source project is kind of like a nonprofit.
13 MINS LATER

Max ReznikGUEST
I was on the aggressive side for ETH, and I'm also on the very end of the aggressive side of the spectrum for Solana as well, so.

This document, this mandate document from the EF, I read it as it's far more a statement about what the EF is not more than it is a statement about what the EF is and what it wants to do.
D
9:23David HoffmanGUEST
The Ethereum community has been loudly talking about its ethos to the annoyance of the rest of the industry since inception.
36 MINS LATER
Taylor MonahanGUEST
right that like so technically novel so tech whatever like it's in it's in a different vein and i think if the eaf found got creative they would have no problem doing this and no problem with with the downsides of chilling shit
Should We Legalize Medical Aid in Dying?
S
7:14speaker_7ADVERTISER
Mm-hmm.
D
7:16David HoffmanGUEST
To call what a person who wants to end their suffering at the very end of their life by medication the same thing as someone who wants to end their life because otherwise their life and their suffering will not end the same thing.
D
7:35David HoffmanGUEST
is confusing, it's linguistically unnecessary, and frankly, it's disrespectful to people who are what we consider classically or conventionally suicidal, meaning those seeking death out of despair in order to end their life because it won't end otherwise.
D
7:56David HoffmanGUEST
People seeking medical aid in dying, by definition, in the United States, have a terminal illness.
