3rd Party Forgiveness: Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and the Black Panther Reconciliation

You know, this is very interesting to me because for me, I've always been somewhat of a radical.

My daughter calls me a light-skinned

radical.

So you would be a Huey.

Huey Newt.

But you know what's interesting for me, though? I always wonder why is it that there's always a fracture between maybe two people that have put this thing together that had a vision for it What was the cause of the fracture between Seals and Newton?

Well, I think part of it is understanding the dynamic.

And when people don't understand the dynamic, you know, it's it seems and it looks like a fracture.

And then as it seems from the outside, it gets bigger and bigger.

And it was forces from the outside, I think, that make it even bigger.

It's like being in a relationship with a girlfriend and then her girlfriends jump in and have their opinions.

The dudes jump in and say, man, don't let that girl talk to you like that.

And then the fracture continues to swell.

I think for the Black Panther Party, it was the United States government in terms of trying to pull these fractions apart in terms of Bobby and Huey.

The dynamic between the two is that Bobby Seals was an older student in college and Huey was a young student.

Bobby Seals had gone to the military and came back as that student that's a little older than everybody else and more like a big brother slash father to a lot of them.

Right.

So the conflict was always a mentoring relationship that sometimes can get bigger and bigger in terms of that direction of the younger party.

So I think that was probably the inception of the fraction when people come in to pull them apart.

If I can jump in, we're currently working on Bobby's last memoir.

It's going to be entitled I, Bobby.

And in just the research and the in-depth studies that we have gone through to help co-author this book, I, Bobby, Since Bobby is talking in such a reflective tone now, it's one of the things that I keep coming back to is this wasn't them sitting down and saying, here's what we're going to do brick by brick by brick by brick.

was a response.

to what was happening if kids if they identified kids being hungry going to school their immediate response was okay let's create programs within our community to feed the kids and If there was an outbreak of sickle cell, their immediate response was, okay, let's set up these free clinics so that women within the community, so I think, can have aid.
