While we are all starting a new week, five years ago, all of you and I were starting a brand spanking new journey.

Five years ago, this program, Ranch Raised, was launched, and I thought it would be fitting to take a little walk down memory lane.

I never in a million years had any idea that my world would one day collide with radio broadcasting.

As I was working for R-CALF USA at the time, doing media interviews about the state of the cattle industry became second nature.

Well, one day at Bassett Livestock Auction, I would meet Monty James, the famed voice behind the Hot Barn Report and, at the time, co-owner of Your Ag Network.

He hit record, and we had a conversation about imported beef, lack of mandatory country of origin labeling on beef, and the failing live cattle market we were experiencing at the time.

A few days later, he reached out and asked me if I would be a guest contributor on the Hot Barn Report.

Speaking about cattle industry policy was really my strength zone at the time, so I jumped on it.

From naming the program to crafting my own script every day, Ranch Raised was born, a completely unique program on the radio dial about everyday ranch life, raising kids, and a few of my favorite recipes thrown in the mix.

Now, come back tomorrow because I wanna share what I've learned during my five years of being on the airwaves.
