If you don't know the story, the story of The Odyssey is around Odysseus who has spent 10 years fighting the Trojan War and then he finishes off with the war and then he's going to head home and it takes him 10 years to get home.

You can tell that Odysseus is a bloke because if it took him 10 years to get home, why didn't he ask for directions? That's clearly the problem here.

When he left, so he's away from home 20 years, but when he left 20 years before, his wife Penelope had given birth to their firstborn son, Telemachus.

So Telemachus is literally an infant and has grown to manhood while his dad is away.

And so the story revolves all around Telemachus' journey, Odysseus' journey, but the real hero of the movie, and he has a very small part, the real hero of the book, Homer's Odyssey, is a guy called Mentor.

Mentor is the trusted friend of Odysseus and when Odysseus heads off to the Trojan War 20 years earlier, he leaves his family and the estate, the kingdom that he rules, in the hands of Mentor and particularly the protection of his family and the raising of his son Telemachus.

And so Mentor becomes the trusted guide, the The name mentor means a trusted friend or a wise advisor.

And Telemachus becomes the man that he is because 20 years without his dad on the scene, Telemachus becomes a wise, courageous young man who is loyal to his dad, even though he hasn't met him.

And of course, we get that name mentor which we use so often to refer to people who advise us.
