Attention: Prince William Is Doing "Stuff"

[mischievous music] So Ally, we took a week off, but I know that that doesn't mean your mind stops forming thoughts and opinions about the royal family.

So tell me, what are your current musings? Anything you're thinking about in particular?

I was thinking this week about royal second marriages and how-

Mm

... it's really a modern phenomenon.

We started seeing royal second marriages, when the spouse hadn't died, of course, pretty much in the '90s, right? Wasn't it?

Mm-hmm.

When Anne remarried, and then in 2005, when Charles remarried.

Prior to that, it's, it wasn't a thing.

And this is all, of course, on my mind because of-

Mm-hmm

... as we will get into more detail, Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling.

Yes.

And I was just thinking about how nice it is that Peter can do this.

I've thought about this too, and I wonder, like, if it were William, for example, do we still have different standards for those in direct line to the throne? Obviously, Charles had a second marriage.

Mm-hmm.

But that was many years and much strife in the making.

If William had chosen for his bride a divorcee, or if he himself had had an unsuccessful first marriage before marrying Kate, would the terms have been different for him?

I think so, yeah.

It's just that-

I do think so

Peter's so low on the totem pole.

Peter doesn't even have a title.

But regardless, I mean, Anne is the princess royal.

She could still do it.

I think it's, it's probably different, but anyway, there's all this to unpack in terms of royal second marriages, and that's why it was on my mind.

I, [laughs] I don't know if you saw this, but Mike Tindall gave an interview with, I think, the magazine Woman & Home, and during the interview he was asked if he and Zara, his wife, Anne's daughter, have any n- pet names for each other.

Oh.

And he said that, he said, "If it's nicknames, it's Z and Mikey T."

Okay.

And that they also call each other Munchkin.

That's ...

Is my life better for knowing this? I'm not sure.

[laughs] My feeling was, I realized something about myself that I don't think I'd ever fully put into words before, or I probably have actually on this podcast, which is, I don't like it when royals affect normality and call each other by the first letter of their name.

H&M, Z, Mikey T. I'm just not into it.

It makes my stomach turn a little bit.

I didn't think they did stuff like that.

I know.

I don't like it when normal people do it, and I really don't like it when royals do it, and I can't quite pinpoint why.

I think it's this, like, forced attempt to seem normal, and we know that they're not normal.

They probably think of themselves as normal.

They have their, their lives.

They live their lives, and to them, their lives are normal.

But they're not normal to us, and I don't wanna be forced to think that they're normal by hearing that they call, call each other Z and Mikey T.

Not into it.

I'm completely in alignment.
