We Didn't Realize Episode 1

So for those of you that may not know this about us, we got married in 1980, and that was 46 years ago.

and we've actually been in the ministry together all those 46 years and so again we don't have all the answers and we still have a lot of questions but we also feel like that the reason we're doing this is because we didn't realize some of the things that you would face in marriage and some of the things you'd face in ministry and And when we say we didn't realize, some of that's good stuff.

You know, we didn't realize how good things would be and how good God would be.

But also, we didn't realize how hard it would be at times.

But that's the way it is for everybody.

Don't you agree? Yes.

It's just that way it is.

It's life.

Yeah, it is.

And so what we hope to do is kind of share what we didn't realize and hope that helps you in some of the things that you might be facing.

So again, we thank you for joining us.

Now, let me kind of tell you how this came to be.

When we knew that God was asking us or telling us, really, to step away from being the pastor of Emmanuel, I really struggled with that.

Because I really liked being the pastor.

Loved the church.

Nothing was wrong.

But we just do this as what he wanted us to do.

And even a couple of years before we kind of went through that process and telling the church, I just started jotting down some things on my laptop just a little bit at a time.

And I called it, I Didn't Realize.

And, you know, I didn't realize, for instance, that when we came to Emanuel in 2001, that we would be there almost 25 years.

Right.

And then we just celebrated this, but we didn't realize, I didn't realize that two weeks after we came, because we came in August of 2001 at the end of there, two weeks after that, 9-11 would happen.

Yeah.

And it was our first big thing, how do we handle all this? Mm-hmm.

And so those are just a couple of things.
