In 2022, governments agreed to an ambitious international plan to halt the loss of biodiversity.

It set out four goals and 23 targets, with 2030 as the deadline for many of them.

Now, as delegates gather in Yerevan for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the question is less about making new promises than keeping the ones already made.
The key issues at this meeting, at this conference, are how are we doing? How is the world delivering on this global biodiversity framework? If every country in the world delivered on all four goals and all 23 targets, nature, biodiversity, wildlife, ecosystems would be in much better shape than they are now.
This meeting is going to talk about how can we take stock and deliver in four years on all of these targets.

Among those targets is a commitment often called 30 by 30, conserving at least 30% of land and sea by 2030.
We work on the ground in almost 60 countries, assisting governments with how they deliver on these targets, helping them establish parks and protected areas on land and in the ocean, helping them do the science that's necessary to deliver on these targets.
How do they achieve at least 30% protected? And that's not just lines on a map.
That's, is it based on sound science? Is it effective? Is it equitable for local communities?
