Milwaukee leaders are a step closer to a temporary halt on new data center projects.
A Common Council committee has approved a proposal that would pause new data center construction for up to a year or until new zoning rules are adopted.
City officials say the proposal would give Milwaukee time to develop regulations governing where data centers can be built and how they operate.
The Common Council is expected to take up the proposal at their October 13th meeting.
Milwaukee Public Schools says an apparent failure to verify a substitute teacher allowed a former student into a Rufus King classroom.
The district says its initial findings show Amy Jones passed the school's safety screening, but office staff apparently didn't confirm she was a real substitute.
The district says they'll retrain employees and provide support for impacted students.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission is dismissing a residency complaint against Democratic Assembly candidate Ismael Luna.
State Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez filed the challenge following her August primary defeat, claiming Luna lied about living in Milwaukee's 8th District.
Commission members voted unanimously to toss the complaint, finding no reasonable suspicion that Luna violated state law.
Luna, who says he's been renting a room inside the district for a year, faces a Republican candidate in a write-in campaign for Ortiz-Velez.
And a former department store on Milwaukee's historic Mitchell Street is getting a new use with an event venue downstairs and plans for 16 apartments above.
The venue will accommodate up to 99 people for weddings, birthdays, and other gatherings.
