This year, the 4th of July marks a major milestone here in the United States of America, the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence.
As we in the U.S. prepare to celebrate the semi-quincentennial year by putting on our reds, whites, and blues, oohing and aahing at fireworks displays, or waving our flags as parade floats pass by, we might also take a moment to ask ourselves, what does it actually mean to be patriotic as a Catholic?
