John interviews Tom Robinson who’s been a Voice Actor for over 4 decades.
27, something like that, yeah.
I think what's changed the most is... voice actors themselves what i mean is i think um what has happened is i don't think it's any more or any less competitive because i think there's always going to be the industry's grown so much there's just plenty of work out there for everybody
but what i think has happened is the quality of voice actors getting the work has become better and and you know i think that's due to People like us, right? We're helping people get into the industry because there was a time where you could fake your way into the room a little bit, right? I suppose, yeah.
Like you said, you got lucky the one time, right? Yeah.
That doesn't happen a lot anymore, right? Now it's more people are looking for voice actors.
Mm-hmm.
Unless it's like your friend.
But for the most part, clients are looking for a voice actor who's actually good at this because they want their project to sound good.
So I think that's changed, which is positive.
I think now when, because in the past, and I'm sure you know this, in the past when you would hire a voice actor and it was someone new, you didn't know them, you were rolling the dice.
You were like, okay, is this person going to number one show up on time? Is the person going to be good? and it also gives a clear to me that gives me a clear idea of who should be doing this and who shouldn't now you know like i meet people who right away i think oh this person maybe shouldn't be doing this because and it's not even their voice necessarily it's it's the way they act like oh this person's late okay that's maybe this person isn't this isn't for them oh this person no showed maybe this because these are things you can't really do in fact um I did a podcast about this, like just phone etiquette, right? Like, so, so things have changed where, and if you're running a small business, you know, you can't be like this, but I've, I've, you would think, but I have called people that I go, Oh, this person is probably not a real professional.
It's a caution, cautionary.
Uh, incident to me where I'll call someone's phone and instead of just like, I understand that it's going to go to voicemail.
That's just how it's going to go now.
And that's perfectly fine.
