Vitel Lawes on life as a Viper - and much more besides!

[upbeat music] I'm delighted to say that we've been joined on Viper's Voices by Vital Laws, the left-arm wrist spinner who really has made a big impression for the Vipers in his first tournament for the franchise.

Vital, thanks so much for being with us, and I guess you're enjoying center stage with the Desert Vipers at the Global Super League, but you were a late call-up for this tournament.

How did it all come about?

So I got the, the message before the last ODI.

I wanted to obviously go back home to see my family, you know, but I told myself I needed T20 experience, seeing that I have this Caribbean Premier League coming up in a couple of days.

So I told myself, "Look, I'm going to go to this tournament and, um, look to get some experience for the CPL."

Now, are you going to play in the CPL then? Have you been contracted to, uh, to take part in that tournament?

Yes, I contracted with the Jamaica Kingsmen.

Well, that's good to know.

Of course, uh, that's your local franchise, and it's, it's been a whirlwind past two or three weeks for you, hasn't it? You've made your One Day International for the West Indies against New Zealand.

Now there's the Global Super League.

I'm wondering how easy or how difficult has it been to actually keep your feet on the ground?

Um, I just try to keep things basic.

I don't try to overcomplicate things.

You know, playing at such a high level, um, the margin for error is obviously very small.

So keeping things simple and sticking to the basics as much as possible is what I do on a day-to-day ba- basis.

Now, three of the One Day Internationals you played for West Indies against New Zealand were at Providence Stadium.

I'm wondering how much of a help was that for you coming into the Global Super League, the fact that you were used to playing at the stadium?

Yes, it, it, it helped technically.

I had some knowledge of how the pitch would play.

Um, so I kind of used that to my advantage in the games.

But the pitch weren't that similar to the One Day Series, but, you know.

But-- and in some instances you get similar, um, traits from the pitches and I'm used to it and I'm used to...

I know the lengths I'm supposed to bowl and servers like that.

So I just bring that into the game.
