Send us Fan Mail In this episode we look back at the final of the ILT20 Development Tournament, that wrapped up at the ICC Academy at Dubai Sports…
Jack LuffmanGuestThe Vipers opted to bat first after winning the toss in the final, and it was a real struggle for the side to post a competitive score against a team that had won five of its six previous matches in the tournament.
Harshit Kaushik's 42 from 32 balls from number four was a bright spot, but the side had slipped to 91 for 6 in the 14th over before Qusaay Mahboob Tanveer led a late rally with 30 from 17 deliveries, including a four and three sixes.
The Vipers were bowled out with one ball unused for 143, but given the situation when Qusaay strode to the crease, they at least had something to bowl at, albeit not an imposing score that they would have wanted at the outset.
The Vipers had battled so hard to reach the final, winning two matches they might ordinarily have expected to lose against Dubai Capitals and Sharjah Warriors, and they carried that never-say-die attitude into the field once more.
Qusaay Mahboob Tanveer struck with the very first ball of the innings, a caught and bowled to dismiss the Giants impact sub, Tanish Suri, and they reduced the Giants to 15 for 3, 48 for 4, 76 for 5 and 89 for 6.
But the Giants always had in the back of their minds the fact that they weren't chasing a massive score, so they had scope to consolidate, and that's exactly what Soheb Khan with an unbeaten 30 and Junaid Shams with 29 not out did.
They added an unbeaten 55 for the seventh wicket and got the Giants home with eight balls in hand.
Disappointment for the Vipers side then at the end of the tournament after a terrific run to the final.
