And as you mentioned, these instincts are for self-preservation, social interaction, and one-to-one bonding.
And though we possess and use all three instincts, we tend to favor or overvalue one, which we call our dominant instinct, and there's one we undervalue and don't pay enough attention to-
Okay? So the self-preservation instinct focuses on bodily survival and the basics of life, things like food, shelter, material security, uh, clothing, health, comfort, physical safety, security, right? So people who are self-preservation dominant unconsciously think, "If my body's okay, then I'll survive and be okay."
Now, the social instinct focuses on our relationship to the herd, right? It's concerned with our place or role in the group, the quality of our relationships within it, and our overall sense of, of belonging, right?
So in the minds of people who unconsciously favor the, the social instinct, survival is dependent on belonging.
Now, the sexual or one-to-one bonding instinct is concerned with our relationship with specific individuals.
And this drive focuses on finding and maintaining a deep connection with a trusted few, such as a romantic partner or, you know, a select group of close friends or a close friend, a, you know, a BFF, if you will.
