So now that we've had 48 hours to think about it, maybe I'll just start and reflect on the review.
I don't feel like I'll go back too much on what I said.
Obviously, maybe I turned it up to 11 a little bit on some things and just to bridge the gap between what I was saying and what people were saying in the comments.
Obviously, I'm not going to die on the hill on the fact that goal kicking was relevant to the game.
I don't mean to suggest that.
Obviously, it's pretty easy from an arithmetic point of view to say that had we kicked three more goals, we do finish the game in front.
But that is undeniable.
I guess what I push back on is the idea that we dominated the game and I do stand by that.
Now, obviously, there's some gray to that.
Richmond, you wouldn't say dominated us either.
As somebody pointed out in the comments, they only had nine shots at goal at three-quarter time.
still comfortably in front but yes i wouldn't say they're dominating either what i would say is that they did play us like a fiddle and they beat us the same way they have the previous four occasions and it was predictable and um you know we we didn't really ever look like a massive threat in that last quarter even when harvey johnson kicked that goal and liam duggan kicked that goal i completely maintained there was nowhere near enough momentum to be able to to get in front so Anyway, that's just me clarifying a few comments.
Obviously, a lot of people in the comments disagreed with my take.
Some didn't.
That's cool.
We move on.
Either way, I just refuse to, and I'm not saying anyone else is doing this, but I feel a real rejection of the idea of giving us credit for dominating.
I don't think that was purely the case.
It was a really bad day.
It was a really bad day and it's frustrating when it happens every time against Richmond.
We can't beat the worst team in the competition, regardless of where it is.
Having a couple of days to reflect on the loss, I'm starting to see the silver linings of it.
And I don't mean that there were overwhelming positives from the game, but I may have alluded to this in my review, but I guess a silver lining from this sort of performance is that it forces us to do a hard reassessment of where we're at.
To some extent, it's a reality check, right? The run of form we've been on has been somewhat promising and, on the understanding that it was going to lead to something better, right? So when you revert back to some of your worst form at the end of that little run, that's a bitter pill to swallow.
