As always, thank you for hanging out and remembering Nicole Van Den Hurk with me today. On October 6, 1995, 15-year-old Nicole van den Hurk disappeared while cycling to her supermarket job in…
So we're gonna be rocking and we're gonna be rolling and we're gonna be doing our best, and I can pin your comment, but I am just going to be doing my very best here.
So Nicole Tetmeier was born on July fourth, nineteen eighty, and she was born to her mother, Angela.
And if her biological dad was in the picture in any capacity, I have not seen it expressly stated anywhere.
But what I can say is that pretty early into Nicole's life, her mother, Angelica, had actually met and married a man named Ad van den Hurk.
I'm not familiar with him.
If you are, you'll have to let me know.
Now, sadly, for whatever reason, Ad and Angelica's relationship did not last.
So in nineteen eighty-nine, when Nicole would have been, like, eight or nine years old, depending on what month it was, the two decided to separate.
And once they got divorced, the primary custody of Nicole actually went to Ad, even though he doesn't seem to have been her biological father.
Like, she was already born at the time that Angelica and he got married.
He had adopted Nicole, and he was able to retain custody of her, which meant from there on out, after she was eight or nine years old, she lived with Ad and his new girlfriend, who then went on to be his wife, who would have then essentially been Nicole's stepmother.
He went on...
She went on to live with Ad and Ad's new girlfriend instead of Angelica.
Now, the reason for the divorce between the two hasn't been made clear.
There are some reports about Angelica suffering from mental health issues and that contributing towards the breakdown of the relationship, though I haven't seen it expressly stated that that was the reason or any official diagnosis on what Angelica had going on.
Though I will say that something that happens later, which we will discuss, adds credibility to the fact that she might have been suffering mentally.
I also can't say for sure what her and Nicole's relationship looked like after the separation or why Nicole didn't end up with Angelica in the first place, considering that was her biological mother.
And at least in the US, I feel like it's pretty uncommon for a mother not to be favored in a separation when it comes to custody.
So if you are local, you'll have to let us know how common it is during a separation for a mother, specifically a biological mother, not to get custody of her kid, because I do think that that is a little bit odd.
Um, but what I can tell you, for all the things I can't tell you whether or not they happened and what the situation was, what I can tell you for sure is that just months before Nicole was killed, her mother, Angelica, did take her own life in Tilburg, I believe is the, the city that she was living in, which when I said that there was something that happened that added credibility to Angelica suffering from mental health issues, this is what I'm talking about.
She did take her own life.
