I actually don't think that this is necessarily the sequel to Confessions that it's been branded as.

Beyond that, after having listened to this start to finish, maybe about 11 times now, I don't really see any other connective tissue

But just as much as it connects to Confessions, it also connects to Erotica, Bedtime Stories, Ray of Light.

I really feel like this album is looking reflectively at that kind of... golden period where every album was untouchable and yes it has Stuart Price's amazing exec producing fingers all over it but I actually think this is the musical output of all of the energy that she put into being determined to make this film of her life and then that didn't work so then she went on tour and That was great.

So then she tried to do the TV show, but she couldn't buy back the script to the film.

This album is the biography of her life, I believe, that she couldn't turn into a film or a TV show.
picks up on all of the strands of her DNA that have really worked and builds on them.
