San Antonio City Council approved a resolution Thursday directing the city to attempt to stop or prevent efforts by Homeland Security and ICE on the creation of detention centers within the city.

The resolution instructs the city manager and the city attorney to take action, support, or coordinate in community efforts to prevent an ICE detention facility from being constructed in San Antonio.

Earlier this week, the city filed a lawsuit against Homeland Security demanding environmental reviews be conducted.

District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez says that he believes ICE has gone rogue.
San Antonio residents are being kidnapped off the streets and threatened by a system that has gone off the rails and no longer complies within the boundaries of our legals, uh, legal justice system.

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones successfully added an amendment to the resolution that calls for the city to oppose 15-year leases recently signed by Homeland Security at Brooks on the city's South Side.

North Side council members Mark White, Misty Spears, and South Side Councilman Phyllis Villagrán voted against the amendment.

The full resolution passed nine to two, with Spears and White voting against.
