Parshat Bereishit: The Celebration of Shabbos

In the beginning, HaKadosh Baruch Hu made the world.

And if you look at how He made the world and each day that He made the world, Everything that we have needed from the beginning of time has been in our world.

And he took one day each day to make different things.

And as we proceed on in our parasha, we meet the first people, Adam and Chava.

We see them given the choice and given the choice to follow what Hashem says and listen to him.

We watch them make that first terrible mistake.

And we learn about their punishment, which is ultimately the reality of death in this world.

And so many changes, the Medrash says, in just how the world runs.

And we begin to see, unfortunately, the foibles in people as the first two brothers in the world are introduced to us, Tayin and Hevel.

And because of jealousy, which is one of our worst mitos, one kills the other.

And as we go through history, and as time goes on, we find that people begin, as the Rambam describes, begin to fight with each other and begin to forget Hashem.

So in the beginning, they're forgetting Hashem.

They're fighting with one another.

And we're watching the generations.

And they're watching and watching and watching.

Until we close our Parsha knowing that Hashem is disappointed in the people and the world.

And we will open the next week's Parsha with Noah.

The fact that there was somebody who believed.

And there was somebody who was matzachim ve'ini Hashem.

And that humanity would thrive and survive despite all.

And I want to share with you understanding of when we meet the first Adam, we know that the first person came into this world and what crowned him as the person is what uncle has described as his rahmah, the ability that he has to speak.

That he is somebody who has choice and can express his choices.
