If you're familiar with my work, you know I talk a lot about these predictive patterns in the brain and essentially how they work like lenses through which we see the world.

Everything we see gets a layer of meaning applied to it through our own unique lenses.

It's how our brains function and help us move through the world by using our unique set of experiences to create a set of rules about how to behave in the world, how we should behave, what we should expect from other people, what things mean, what our behavior means.

And there's just no getting around that as humans because it's how we've adapted to move through the world.

But we can learn how to observe these lenses and the meaning that we are making.

If the learning and the meaning is something from our past, once we observe it, that's when we can start to give ourselves new experiences to change that data, to change that lens, and to update the rules about how we and other people around us are expected to behave.
