Shiur from Rabbi Elimelech Kohn Ztl on סוכות. Discussed: - The connection between Sukkos, Moshiach, and the end of days. - The Vilna Gaon's approach for why we celebrate Sukkos in Tishrei and not…
What's this connection between the holiday of Sukkot and this futuristic aspect that we just described about the future redemption? As I mentioned, we have the Haftaris of Sukkot that deal with futuristic redemption.
Then of course we have the passage from From the Novi Zechariah that says that the Yontav of Sukkot is going to be the testing ground for all the nations of the world.
This is how G-d is going to test the nations of the world in terms of what they're going to do on Sukkot, whether they're going to come up to Yerushalayim, whether they will pay homage to the Jewish people.
We mentioned earlier that the nations of the world actually came in the days of Shlomo HaMelech to hear the words of Shlomo, the wisdom of Solomon, in Yerushalayim on Sukkot.
You have that all in this passage from the Novi Zechariah, that Chag Sukkos is going to be the testing ground of the nations of the world.
Many of you are familiar with the Gemara in Avodah Zarah, Dav Beis and Dav Gimel.
That it's going to be the mitzvah of Sukkah by which G-d is going to judge the nations of the world.
Gamma Novi Omus, and this is of course really the key to understanding this phrase that we have in Benching.
The Novi Omus, Misnabe, where it says, the quotation is, So it's really a paraphrase of this passage from the Novi Omus where G-d says, on that day I will reestablish and erect the fallen sukkah of David.
Where did that expression come from, Bar Nafli? It comes on account of this passage from Amos.
And that's why we pray on Sukkot, Hashem should reestablish for us the fallen Sukkot of David.
So now we have to understand, Zor Ch'albehaven, HaKesher, Bein Sukkos U'Mashiach, what's the connection between Sukkos and Mashiach, and also why is this name out of all you know, titles or adjectives or epithets chosen for Mashiach to refer to him as Bar-Nathli, son of the fallen, on account of this posseg that talks about the fallen sukkah of David.
Why the fallen sukkah of David? Why is Mashiach given this attribution? My time in Ikram, Mashiach beshames us.
