Hello, and welcome to the Questions and Answers edition of Thriving Kids, a podcast from the Child Mind Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children with mental health and learning disorders.
Last week, we had a special conversation with NBC anchor and correspondent Kate Snow about the intersection of journalism and mental health.
Kate shared her own personal experiences with mental health and how suicide loss shaped her reporting, also about how telling these stories publicly can help reduce stigma, open up conversations, and shine a light on the systems families turn to when someone is struggling.
That conversation sparked a lot of questions from our community about how parents can talk to kids about suicide and mental health, how to recognize when someone may be struggling, how to support a family after a loss, and how to help kids feel safe coming to adults when something feels wrong.
