Moral Injury, Health 4.0, and the End of "You"

Travis Hutton, hey doc, how do you deal with a peer that constantly criticizes your patient care? Here's the thing.

It's good to be open.

Openness is the key in anything it seems.

And we can't choose anything because this is all just happening.

But often when we're open, we see if there's something that they're saying that's relevant to what we're doing, we'll hold it and act on it.

But more often what you're seeing is it's them.

There's something in them that's projecting.

they're upset about something or there's some part of them they don't like and they're projecting it onto you and then they're using that as a way to avoid feeling whatever they would normally feel.

So I think the key thing is just to stay open and to realize this isn't personal, it's not about you.

Yeah, it really never is.

When it's someone else seemingly.

Now, when you're annoyed with someone else, it's always you.

because you're projecting onto them the same way they're apparently doing it onto you.

These are all icons that we're creating, you know? And so we take them seriously at our peril.

We take them literally at our peril.

We take them sincerely, I think, is a good way to take other humans.

Like, ah, I'll be open.

What's going on? But it has nothing to do with this.

And nothing does, actually.

This is just happening.

So it's not very specific advice.

It's more like a, It's the root advice, the radical advice, which is this isn't about us.

There's no you here having this problem, right? So be open and see then the relating continues with that person.

But there's no actual relationship because there aren't separate entities there.

This is all appearance.
