A walk into the woods ended in unimaginable cruelty. Thirty-one years later, the punishment for that crime would become its own disturbing story. In 1995, 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer was lured into the woods in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she was tortured and murdered by Christa Pike and her boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp. Fueled by jealousy, the attack stole Colleen’s future and sent Pike to death row. Join Kathryn and Meg as we examine Colleen’s murder, the evidence that exposed her killers, and the case that made Christa Pike Tennessee’s only woman on death row. Then, we follow the events of September 30, 2026, when Pike survived a botched lethal injection—and the chaotic scramble for medical help that followed. From the life taken in those woods to the unanswered questions inside the execution chamber, this is a deeply unsettling chapter of The Vibes Were Off.
