Chapter 17 of Malachim Aleph introduces us to the momentous character of Eliyahu.
The Tishbite, not clear what that means, Eliyahu HaTishbi, who comes from the Gilad, from the Trans-Georgian, says to Achav, Chai Hashem Elohi Yisrael, as God, the God of Israel lives, Asha Amadati LaFanav, before whom I have stood, Im Yia, Asha Nima Ela, Talu Matar, Ki Im LaFi Devari, there will be no dew, there will be no rain, until I say so.
What caused this? Who is Eliyahu? Where's his backstory? What's going on here? Who is this man? And how does he get access to the king? And we're told none of this.
Eliyahu in typical Elijah style seems to breeze in, come out of nowhere and disappear to nowhere.
If you open chapter 18, we realize that he is declaring what will be a three-year drought, a three-year famine on the land.
