Just a quick review, uh, Nikki came out in, what was it? That would've been 2024, right? Before the first Cape Town.
Right.
Um, and, and you struggled with a bit of a, an injury that cropped up on the day.
Uh, and then obviously last year, Cape Town Marathon was canceled on the day, and so this is, this is a bit of a ...
Yeah.
I w- I'll ask a couple of questions about nutrition and pacing and, and all sorts of-
Yeah, yeah
What was your sort of goal or target maybe going in, and how did you, you feel you achieved what, what your, your goal or target was?
Yeah.
So a couple of years ago when I had come out, I'd had a bad cold, and then I had a sore foot, and I had to pull out about 12K or so in.
[lips smack] And, uh, from that I got blood tests done and had this chronic anemia, which I've been struggling with for the last couple of years.
And, um, so to do a marathon is quite a challenge [laughs] for me generally because I don't have the red blood cells and the oxygen going to my muscles.
So in the last couple of years with Valencia and with Cape Town, it's about completion, taking my time, not taking my body, not really massively stressing my body, but just getting that medal and getting to the finish line.
So I don't have goal times, I just have more, um, sort of keeping my body safe and well, and enjoying the day and enjoying the experience.
So that was great for Valencia.
I didn't feel great actually on the morning, and even in the first hour I thought, "Oh, this is gonna be a long day." It's a very hilly marathon.
Um, and even though we always warn people it is, and I have run some of the course before, it still, I think takes you a little bit by surprise, just the slow grinds of the hills that come along.
Um, and it did feel there was a lot of slow grinds.
It also felt quite warm.
