Doc, you mentioned the positive effects of MHT on symptoms, so things like sleep disturbances, hot flashes, et cetera, et cetera, and all linked to this.
Obviously, we're speaking to runners here, and you mentioned stress fractures, but Does MHT or HRT have a positive effect or good effect on bone loss, lean muscle mass, you know, those things that are, I guess, performance linked in that regard, or the activities of daily living as well, but, or is that, yeah, do we need to do other things to help with those sort of aspects? So the answer
does affect running performance and in a number of ways, which I'm happy to just quickly bullet point.
And yes, we also still need to be doing other things in order to protect or maintain bone health and certainly also protect and maintain muscle mass.
So in terms of its effect on running performance, there's many positive impacts.
I've mentioned sleep, that it improves sleep quality, which obviously affects recovery and mood.
Remember HRT, you don't like the word replacement, but really it's supplementing hormones.
So by supplementing estrogen, which is the mainstay of HRT, you're able to then maintain or even improve your bone density.
So in this way, it then supports strength and endurance, right? And of course, I also mentioned some of the symptoms that relate to mood and energy.
And therefore, it can also improve things like training consistency, which is quite an issue.
over and above that, we absolutely do need to be doing other things to protect our bone health and muscle mass.
So bone health specifically, I'm not a dietician, but that would be the first thing that I say.
