We all have those things that are most important to us, but do our calendars actually reflect those priorities? This week on The Seismic Shift, Michelle is joined by an individual who has personally…
Michelle K. JohnstonHostUm, So the business athlete for me is an individual who appreciates the skill sets, the foundational components of elite performance.
It's just having the appreciation and the coachability to understand that you can't do this alone.
And there are people that have come before you that have played at a really high level and success leaves clues.
It's looking to business and military and creative arts and academia and really kind of taking this Renaissance approach to what is all available and how do I make that meaningful and useful to me? And so part of what I love about the business athlete frame, if you were to look at it through the lens of sport, is this intentionality.
It's taking a step back and saying, what are we optimizing for? In football, it's Super Bowl.
There is something that we want to train and put ourselves in a position to be successful for.
As you and I experienced, Michelle, going through that session, it's like we go through different stages and phases in our lives and we're always in a state of becoming.
And oftentimes high performers, well, we're just not really great at slowing down.
Like you said, pinball machine, just bouncing off the sides, lighten up the buttons.
You know, the only rest you get is when maybe if you kind of come back to the backstop, but then you immediately pull that plug and you're shooting back out.
That's you coming back to your home base and then immediately going back out on the road.
And so that two hour session really is an opportunity for you to slow down and ask some important questions of who have I been becoming? Because you're always in a state of evolving as an individual and always acquiring new skill sets.
And so the slowing down allows you to really appreciate and understand, well, what are the raw materials that I've gotten to now? And so much of that conversation that I created is built on the inspiration from Joseph Campbell.
And for those who aren't familiar with Joseph Campbell, he was fascinated with mythology.
And specifically around the story in the character in specific stories of like this call to action and crossing the threshold from the normal world into this unknown state.
